Sam Marshall – Exploring Linocut - 2 techniques in 2 days

Artist & Printmaker Sam Marshall studied Fine Art at the Slade School of Fine Art, and completed her MA diploma at the Royal Drawing School where she now teaches. She originates from the flat fens of Lincolnshire but moved to London as soon as she could. She lived there for 22 years before returning to the countryside. She now lives in a cottage in rural Northamptonshire with her mini dachshund ‘Miss Marple. She has 2 studios in her garden where she makes her work, runs online workshops and holds creative coaching sessions.

Sam draws inspiration from many sources – medieval margins and bestiaries, animal prints from the 1800’s, folk art, old children’s books, and real life animals and landscapes that have something of the unusual about them.  Her work is influenced by the British aesthetic of artists such as Eric Ravilious, Edward Bawden and Thomas Bewick.

Her best-selling book LINOCUT book was published by Bloomsbury in 2023 and is currently working on a book about drawing which will be published in 2026.
