Screen printing – Reduction printing using screen filler

Screen printing, sometimes called serigraphy or silk screen printing, uses the method of creating an image on paper or fabric by pushing ink through a screen mesh with areas blocked off by stencils.  On this course you will create a two or three colour layer print. Using screen filler you will paint the stencil directly onto the screen, tracing from your prepared image. We work from the lightest colour layer up to darkest. After each colour has been printed we reduce the printable area in the screen by painting into the stencil with more filler. This process requires a willingness to experiment!  You will be assisted in developing your image to make it suitable for this process. Screen filler and drawing fluid are great tools for creating screen stencils without the need for complicated equipment and as such they are ideal for a home practice.
