Printed in silver ink onto black Somerset paper Traces of a Childhood 8, is from a suite of eight prints exploring memory and childhood. Inspired by an anonymous gift to me of a collection of Edwardian baby clothes, I wondered who the mother was and the act of love at keeping them. By transformingthe garments into printing plates I made memory portraitsof those unknown children. Each print has the direct ‘touch’ of the child. Whisps of hair at the neck and a gold feather evoke the heart of the child and the love of a mother.
