Anne Desmet RA to open exhibition of 40 years of Printmaking at Curwen

We are delighted to be showing the work of Anne Desmet RA in the Curwen Gallery from 7 September - 5 October 2026. Desmet was born in Liverpool and studied at Oxford University and London’s Central School of Art. Elected Hon. Fellow of Worcester College Oxford (2018) for ‘distinction in the world of art’, she exhibits wood engravings and collages widely, has won over 40 awards (inc. a Rome Scholarship in Printmaking; Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award, USA; three Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Awards, Canada; and the London Original Print Fair Prize at London’s RA Summer Exhibition) and has works in international collections. The Ashmolean, Whitworth, Pallant House and V&A all have substantial holdings of her work. Over 50 solo shows include museum retrospectives at Escher in the Palace, The Hague, The Netherlands (2025-6); Moscow’s Ex Libris Museum (1995); and the UK’s Ashmolean (1998) and Whitworth (2008); plus themed museum shows at the Holburne (2017); Gainsborough’s House (2018); Pallant House Gallery (2022-23) and London’s Guildhall Art Gallery (2024-25). Desmet has written seven books on printmaking/drawing and was editor of Printmaking Today from 1998-2013. Commissions include engravings for the British Museum; National Gallery; British Library; V&A; Sotheby’s and the Royal Mint.
