Monoprinting & Stencil making - Masterclass with Charles Shearer RCA

This two day workshop will introduce you to a range of processes that would suit anyone wishing to develop their creative ideas plus a little bit of precise folding and thread binding. Demonstrations will be given at every stage so no previous experience of printmaking or binding should be a barrier.
Course structure
• Introductory talk with supporting examples of Charles Shearer’s work.
• Experimentation with techniques that you can use for your piece of work later on, using cut-outs and inked rollers on a selection of different papers discovering simple actions with complex results
• Developing two colour mono-prints in response to a poem or piece of text, your image will be printed alongside the text.
• One of your illustrated pieces will be bound into a simple folded cover that can be decorated.
• On the second day continue with the printed poems & develop ideas on a larger scale using stencil cut-outs and thin acetate.
Pre course information
Please bring a sketchbook or notebook of ideas. Do bring any reference material you would like such as, books, magazines, photographs, postcards etc. A large range of textured material will be available, but you can bring a few pieces of textured material, leaves and feathers etc that can be printed with the stencil prints (optional.) A selection of poems will be available for you to choose from but you can bring a poem or piece of text to use.
Experience level
Suitable for those with some printing experience and wishing to expand their printing skills, and for those interested in illustration.

Full payment of the course fee is required when booking a place. A reserved place is not secure until full payment has been received.
If for any reason you are unable to attend, we will refund monies paid minus a £20 admin fee, as long as you cancel your place more than 1 month before the course start date.
There is an option to book your place for £100 deposit. If you choose this option your place is secured. The balance of term 1 will be due 20 working days before the start of the course. If you cancel more than 20 working days before the course start date, we will refund monies paid minus a £20 admin fee. If your place is not cancelled during this timescale, and the balance is not paid then the deposit is non refundable. All other Terms & Conditions remain the same. Curwen Print Study Centre reserves the right to cancel courses – a full refund will be made in these circumstances.
For CPSC Certificate course
Payment for Term 1 is required when booking a place. A reserved place is not secure until this payment has been received. Payments for Terms 2 & 3 will be due at the end of the previous term. Payments for Terms 2 & 3 will be due before the first day of each term.
If for any reason prior to the commencement of the course you are unable to attend, we will refund monies paid minus a £20.00 admin fee, as long as you cancel your place more than 1 month before the course start date. Once you start the course on Term 1 you have committed to all 3 terms. Course transfers are at the discretion of Curwen Print Study Centre.
