Gelli Plate Monoprinting

Gelli Plates are a flexible plate made of a thick single layer of a gelatin-like plastic material which contains mineral oil. This plate is stable and reusable if it is cleaned after each use. They are durable and long lasting and are ideal for monoprinting without a press. There are many ways to use the gel plates to print – it really is all about working in an experimental, expressive, spontaneous and creative way. On this introductory half day you will learn what paint works best for the methods, how to ink up and print with a Gelli Plate, how to cut stencils and masks to use in your prints. Create layered prints using transferred magazine or photographic images, and use masks and cut shapes to add interest. the end of the afternoon you will have at least 5 x A4 prints to take home.

Course structure
• Explanation of Gelli Plate monoprinting and looking at examples
• Introduction to equipment and techniques
• Use of rollers and paints and how to ink up your plate
• Using masking and over-printing create layered mono prints
• How to use and transfer magazine or printed photographic images within your gel print

Experience level
• Beginners and/or those wishing to refresh their skills.


Payment / Terms and Conditions

For all courses except CPSC Certificate course

Full payment of the course fee is required when booking a place. A reserved place is not secure until full payment has been received.

If for any reason you are unable to attend, we will refund monies paid minus a £15.00 admin fee, as long as you cancel your place more than 1 month before the course start date.

Course transfers are at the discretion of Curwen Print Study Centre. Curwen Print Study Centre reserves the right to cancel courses – a full refund will be made in these circumstances.

For CPSC Certificate course

Payment of the deposit for Term 1 is required when booking a place. A reserved place is not secure until this deposit has been received. The outstanding balance for Term 1 is due before the start of Term 1 and payments for Terms 2 & 3 will be phased in a similar way. The receipt of your Term 1 deposit is acceptance of commitment to all 3 Terms of the Certificate course.
