Exploring Stone Lithography with Paul Croft RE TMP RCA

Translated literally, Lithography means ‘to write on stone’ and it works on the principle that water and oil do not mix. Stone Lithography is a technique still favoured by many artists because it offers the opportunity to draw and paint directly onto a unique tactile drawing surface, allowing the artist to create a huge range of marks and tones in their images. On this introductory course, you will learn how to paint with water-tusche washes and explore the astonishing 'reticulated washes' peculiar to stone lithography, as well as using traditional approaches to mark-making using lithography crayons, pencils, and ink. On Day 2 you will be joined by a second tutor who will teach you how to create unique monoprinted backgrounds to overprint with your lithographs. This course gives a comprehensive introduction to Stone Lithography and at the end of this two-day course you will leave with a small edition of your work and a deeper knowledge of this exciting medium.
