Cardboard Cuts with Charles Shearer RCA – Artist, Illustrator and Printmaker

Born in Kirkwall, Orkney in 1956 Charles Shearer studied at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen and at the Royal College of Art, London, specialising in illustration. Since graduating in 1983, he has taught printmaking at numerous art schools alongside working on personal projects including commissions for books and magazines.Charles continues to draw and paint in the landscape alongside developing ideas through print and helps run print workshops at venues around the country.
On this is 2-day course each day will explore the techniques for cardboard cut (collagraph) printmaking and as such, it is possible to attend just 1 day if preferred.
• Introductory talk and looking at examples of original work.
• Explanation & instruction in all aspects of cardboard cutting in preparation of designs for surface and intaglio printing.
• Introduction to the tools and methods employed that help give this process and the images such unique character.
• You will learn about the tools, inks, paper and card as well as the printing presses that we will use.
• A demonstration will be given at every stage and all materials will be provid-ed.
• A demonstration of printing without a press will also be given.
Suitable for anyone wishing to experiment and develop their creative ideasthough some dexterity with a craft knife may be helpful.

Full payment of the course fee is required when booking a place. A reserved place is not secure until full payment has been received.
If for any reason you are unable to attend, we will refund monies paid minus a £15.00 admin fee, as long as you cancel your place more than 1 month before the course start date.
Course transfers are at the discretion of Curwen Print Study Centre. Curwen Print Study Centre reserves the right to cancel courses – a full refund will be made in these circumstances.
For CPSC Certificate course
Payment for Term 1 is required when booking a place. A reserved place is not secure until this payment has been received. Payments for Terms 2 & 3 will be due at the end of the previous term. The receipt of your Term 1 payment is acceptance of commitment to all 3 Terms of the Certificate course.
If for any reason prior to the commencement of the course you are unable to attend, we will refund monies paid minus a £15.00 admin fee, as long as you cancel your place more than 1 month before the course start date. Once you start the course on Term 1 you have committed to all 3 terms. Course transfers are at the discretion of Curwen Print Study Centre.
