Introduction to Gelli Plate Monoprinting

Gelli Plates are made of a flexible, thick, single layer of a gelatin-like plastic material which contains mineral oil. These plates are durable, reusable and easily cleaned and are ideal for monoprinting without a press. There are many ways to use the Gelli plates to print – it really is all about working in an experimental, expressive, spontaneous and creative way.

Learn what paint works best for the methods, how to ink up and print with a Gelli Plate, how to plan for your layered printing. Create layered prints using drawing methods, transferred magazine or photographic images and use masks and cut shapes to add interest.
