Experimental Relief Printing with Jane Stobart RE & Mustafa Sidki

On this in depth course you will be taught by Jane Stobart RE & Mustafa Sidki who specialise in experimental relief printmaking and have delivered workshops and exhibited together for several years. This two-day course will focus on the Lino relief printmaking process and the many possibilities of creating unique prints. ‘Reduction’ linocuts will be explained along with various methods of registration. Themes for the work produced on the course will be available. Discussion and advice on framing and mounting.

Course structure
• Explanation of the Lino techniques, including Reduction technique, with examples
• Introduction to equipment and materials
• Inking techniques explained & explored including colour blends, opaque and transparent inks, monoprinting inking.
• Print using the Relief presses, hand burnishing, and printing under foot
• Use a variety of specialist paper including Japanese and Nepalese hand-made papers
• Use Chîne Collé for additional shape and colour
• You will create at least 10 unique prints.

Experience level
• Beginner and/or those wishing to refresh their skills and experiment with linocut

Pre-course information
Bring drawings, photographs or sketchbook work to develop into prints or just bring yourselves - ideas & suggestions will be provided on the course

Payment / Terms and Conditions

For all courses except CPSC Certificate course

Full payment of the course fee is required when booking a place. A reserved place is not secure until full payment has been received. If full payment is not received within 10 working days of a place being reserved, the booking will be assumed to be void.

If for any reason you are unable to attend, we will refund monies paid minus a £10.00 admin fee, as long as you cancel your place more than 10 working days before the course start date. Cancellations received less than 10 working days before a course starts will require the full course fee to be paid.

Curwen Print Study Centre reserves the right to cancel courses – a full refund will be made in these circumstances.


For CPSC Certificate course

Payment of the deposit for Term 1 is required when booking a place. A reserved place is not secure until this deposit has been received. If the Term 1 deposit is not received within 20 working days of a place being reserved, the booking will be assumed to be void. The outstanding balance for Term 1 is due before the start of Term 1.

If for any reason you are unable to attend, we will refund monies paid minus a £10.00 admin fee, as long as you cancel your place more than 20 working days before the course start date. Cancellations received less than 20 working days before a course starts will require the full course fee to be paid.
